United Way of Tampa Bay’s Public Policy Agenda includes policy issues aligned with United Way’s mission and community priorities. Each issue is segmented into one of the following three strategies:
Legislative Leadership
As United Way will research issues directly connected to the Community Impact Agenda, where United Way’s future leadership and ongoing, active involvement could result in sustained community change.
Legislative Advocacy
United Way helps educate the community on an issue and takes a clear position on the issue.
In 2007, Advocacy Issues include: 2-1-1, Early Childhood/Youth Development, Financial Stability and Opportunity, Hurricane/Disaster Preparedness & Recovery, and Non-Profit Strengthening Initiatives.
Legislative Support
United Way monitors and responds to requests for support (in the form of sign-on letters, etc.) from coalition partners providing the primary leadership on policy issues aligned with United Way’s mission and community priorities.
In 2007, Support Issues include: Affordable Housing, Health Care, the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, the Social Services Block Grant, as well as Local, State, & Federal Budget Processes.
